Open Repair of a Dislocated Ankle With Fixation

Open surgery that puts a dislocated ankle back into place through an incision and then holds it there, either by repairing the torn ligaments and capsule or by fixing the bones with hardware. Fixation may be internal, using screws or a plate, or external, using a frame outside the skin attached to pins. It is used when the joint will not stay in position on its own after being reduced.
