Tendon Transfer in the Lower Leg

Utah rates for HCPCS 27691

Surgery that takes a working tendon in the lower leg, detaches it from its normal attachment and reroutes it to a new point on the foot, so a muscle that still works takes over the job of one that does not. It is done for weakness or imbalance after nerve injury, or for a deformity that keeps pulling the foot into a poor position. The foot is protected in a cast or boot while the transferred tendon heals into its new attachment.
