Removal of Diseased Bone in the Lower Leg

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27640

Scoops out infected or dead bone from one of the bones of the lower leg, working down to healthy bleeding bone. It is used mainly for a bone infection that antibiotics alone have not cleared, and sometimes for a painful overgrowth of bone. The cavity left behind is washed out and either allowed to fill in or packed, and antibiotic treatment continues afterwards.
