Draining an Infected Bursa in the Leg or Ankle

Alabama rates for HCPCS 27604

A small incision is made to open and drain an infected bursa, one of the fluid-filled cushions that let skin and tendons glide over bone, in the lower leg or around the ankle. The pus is let out and the space is cleaned, and the wound may be left open or loosely closed so it can keep draining. Antibiotics are usually given alongside.
