Amputation Through The Knee Joint

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27598

Removes the lower leg at the knee joint itself, separating the shinbone from the thighbone rather than cutting through bone. The thighbone is left full length and the end is padded with muscle and skin. It is done for severe infection, injury, tumor, or a limb whose blood supply cannot be restored.
