Repeat Amputation at the Thigh

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27596

Removes more of the thigh at a level above an earlier amputation, when the existing stump has failed to heal, become infected, or cannot be used. Bone and soft tissue are trimmed back to healthy tissue and a new stump is shaped. The aim is a stump that will heal soundly and take an artificial limb.
