Open Amputation Through the Thigh Bone

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27592

Removes the leg through the thigh bone with a straight cut across the limb, deliberately leaving the wound open rather than closing it. It is used when severe infection or dead tissue makes immediate closure unsafe, so the area can be cleaned and watched. A second operation later shapes and closes the stump.
