Repairs a broken kneecap through an incision, lining the pieces up and holding them with wires, screws or a tension band, and repairing the torn tendon tissue around it. If a fragment is too shattered to save, part or all of the kneecap may be removed and the surrounding tendon reconstructed. It restores the ability to straighten the knee against gravity.
