Plate Repair of a Broken Thigh Bone

Open surgery for a break in the shaft of the thigh bone, in which the fragments are realigned and held with a metal plate fixed to the outside of the bone by screws. A wire loop is sometimes passed around the shaft to hold a fragment in place. The plate keeps the bone aligned while it knits.
