Removal of the Bursa in Front of the Kneecap

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27340

Removes the prepatellar bursa, the small fluid-filled cushion that sits between the skin and the front of the kneecap. Repeated kneeling, a direct blow or infection can leave it permanently thickened and swollen, and it is taken out when it stays painful despite drainage, padding and other treatment. The sac is removed whole through an incision over the front of the knee.
