Removes an entire leg together with the half of the pelvis it attaches to. It is the most extensive amputation of the lower body and is reserved for cancer or catastrophic injury that involves the pelvic bone itself and cannot be treated any other way. The wound is closed using flaps of skin and muscle taken from the removed limb.
