Thigh Bone Neck Reshaping For A Slipped Hip Plate

Open surgery for a hip in which the ball at the top of the thigh bone has slipped off its neck through the growth plate. Rather than pinning the slip, the surgeon trims and reshapes the neck of the thigh bone so that the bump left by the slip no longer jams against the rim of the socket and the hip can move freely again. It is done in growing adolescents, whose hip joints are otherwise damaged by the repeated catching.
