This surgery cuts and repositions the trochanter, a bony prominence at the upper part of the thighbone near the hip, reattaching it in a new position. It is used to improve the alignment and mechanics of the hip when the position of this bony prominence is contributing to a hip problem. Hardware may be used to hold the bone in its corrected position while it heals.
