Opening and Draining the Hip Joint

Vermont rates for HCPCS 27030

The hip joint is opened surgically so that pus or infected fluid trapped inside it can be washed out. The joint is flushed thoroughly and a drain may be left in place for a few days. It is done urgently, because an infection sitting inside a joint destroys cartilage quickly.
