Drainage of an Infected Bursa at the Hip

Vermont rates for HCPCS 26991

Opens and drains an infected bursa — one of the fluid-filled cushions that let muscles and tendons glide over bone — around the hip or pelvis. Through an incision over the swelling the pus is released and the space washed out, and the sac itself may be taken out. Samples are usually sent to identify the organism responsible.
