Fusion of a Knuckle Joint

Joins the two bones of a knuckle, where the finger meets the hand, so that the joint no longer moves. The joint surfaces are prepared and held together with pins, screws or wire until the bones grow into one, without adding bone taken from elsewhere in the body. It is used when arthritis or injury has left the joint painful, unstable or badly bent.
