Pinning A Thumb Base Fracture-Dislocation

Washington rates for HCPCS 26650

A broken and displaced joint at the base of the thumb, the injury often called a Bennett fracture, is pushed back into position without opening the joint, and then held there with one or more thin pins driven through the skin into the bone. Pulling steady tension on the thumb may be used to help hold the alignment while the pins go in. The thumb is protected in a cast or splint afterward, and the pins are taken out once the bone has knitted.
