Treatment for a fingertip that droops and cannot be straightened because the tendon pulling it up has been torn away from the end bone, an injury known as mallet finger. The fingertip is held straight and kept that way, most often in a splint, so the tendon can reattach on its own; when extra holding power is needed, a thin pin is pushed through the skin across the joint rather than the area being opened up. No cut is made to expose or stitch the tendon.
