Hand Tendon Rod Placement For Staged Reconstruction

Vermont rates for HCPCS 26390

When a tendon in the hand or fingers is too damaged to repair directly, a surgeon may remove the injured tendon and place a smooth, flexible rod in its place to hold open a channel through the surrounding tissue. This is the first step of a two-stage reconstruction: the body forms a new lining around the rod over several weeks or months, and a real tendon graft is threaded through that channel in a later procedure. It is generally used for severe or long-standing tendon injuries where a one-step repair is not possible.
