This surgery treats trigger finger, a condition in which a finger or thumb catches, locks, or snaps when bending or straightening due to a tight tendon sheath, by cutting open the sheath at the base of the affected digit. Releasing the sheath allows the tendon to glide smoothly again, relieving the catching, locking, and associated pain or stiffness. It's a relatively quick procedure performed through a small incision in the palm.
