Emergency Release of Hand Compartments

Vermont rates for HCPCS 26037

Emergency surgery that opens the tight fibrous compartments of the hand to relieve pressure from swelling that is squeezing off the blood supply to the small muscles and nerves inside. Incisions are made to release each affected compartment, and the wounds are usually left open at first and closed at a later operation. Pressure that is not released quickly causes permanent stiffness and loss of hand function.
