Surgery to fix breaks in the shafts of the two long bones of the forearm, the radius and the ulna. The surgeon opens the skin, lines the broken ends back up under direct view, and holds them in place with hardware such as plates and screws. It is used when the bones will not stay in a good position in a cast alone.
