Open Repair of a Broken Radius Shaft

Surgery that opens the forearm to line up a break in the shaft of the radius, the thumb-side forearm bone, and hold it with a plate and screws or a rod. It is used when the break cannot be held in the correct position with a cast alone. Fixing the bone in good alignment protects the ability to turn the palm up and down.
