A fluid-filled cyst or non-cancerous growth is scraped or cut out of one of the two forearm bones, and the hollow left behind is packed with bone taken from elsewhere in the patient's own body during the same operation. Harvesting that bone, commonly from the rim of the pelvis, is part of the procedure. Filling the cavity restores the strength of the weakened bone as it heals.
