Removes thickened, inflamed lining from the tendon sheaths and bursa around the wrist and forearm through an incision. The diseased lining is cleared away thoroughly, leaving the tendons themselves in place. It is used when long-standing inflammation — from rheumatoid arthritis or a chronic infection, for example — has swollen the sheaths and put the tendons at risk of fraying or snapping.
