Cuts open the tough sheet of tissue that wraps the forearm muscles, releasing dangerously high pressure inside the limb. Pressure builds up after injury, bleeding or swelling and can choke off blood flow, damaging muscle and nerve within hours. The wound is usually left open at first and closed at a later operation.
