Partial Removal of the Upper Arm Bone

Removes part of the upper arm bone, taking away a diseased surface or a segment of the shaft while leaving the rest of the bone in place. It is done, for example, when bone has become infected and the dead or abnormal bone has to be cleared away before healing can happen.
