An open surgical procedure in which a joint involving the collarbone - either where it meets the shoulder blade or where it meets the breastbone - is opened through an incision to take a tissue sample from inside the joint, rather than the main ball-and-socket shoulder joint. It is used to help diagnose conditions affecting the joint lining or surrounding tissue when a sample of tissue is needed.
