Drainage of a Deep Shoulder Abscess

Vermont rates for HCPCS 23030

Opens and drains a deep pocket of pus or collected blood in the shoulder area, lying beneath the skin and fat among the muscles. The surgeon cuts down to the collection, empties and washes it out, and often leaves a drain or packs the wound so it keeps emptying rather than sealing over. It is used for deep infection or a large blood collection that will not settle on its own.
