Artificial Disc Replacement, Lower Back

Rhode Island rates for HCPCS 22857

This is a spine surgery, approached from the front of the body, in which a damaged disc between two vertebrae in the lower back is removed and replaced with an artificial disc device designed to preserve motion at that level. The surgeon prepares the surfaces of the adjoining vertebrae so the device fits securely. Unlike a procedure that permanently joins two vertebrae together, this approach is intended to let the spine keep moving at the treated level.
