Fusion of the Skull Base to the Upper Neck

Vermont rates for HCPCS 22590

Joins the base of the skull to the top of the neck through an incision down the back of the neck, so that the head sits solidly on the spine. Bone graft together with rods, screws, or wires holds everything still until it heals into one unit. It is used when the junction between the head and the neck is unstable and puts the spinal cord and brainstem at risk.
