Fuses a further segment of the middle or lower spine during the same operation, reached from the side and back so the surgeon can work around the spinal cord without entering the chest or abdominal cavity. Disc material is cleared and bone is placed so the vertebrae grow together into one solid unit. It is billed in addition to the first segment fused.
