Repair of a chest wall that is sunken inwards or pushed outwards, carried out through small incisions at the sides of the chest rather than by opening the front of the chest. A curved metal bar is passed behind the breastbone and turned so that it pushes the breastbone into a more normal position. The bar stays in place for a period and is taken out in a later operation.
