Corrects a breastbone that sits abnormally, whether sunken inwards or pushed outwards, by passing a curved metal bar through small incisions on each side of the chest and using it to hold the breastbone in a normal position. No long cut is made across the front of the chest and no cartilage is taken out. The bar stays in place for a period of years and is then removed in a second, smaller operation.
