Jaw Bone Cut With Tongue Muscle Advancement

Maine rates for HCPCS 21199

This surgically cuts through a segment of the lower jawbone and moves forward the point where a muscle at the base of the tongue attaches, advancing that muscle attachment to help keep the airway open. It's typically performed to treat obstructive sleep apnea by preventing the base of the tongue from falling backward and blocking the throat during sleep. The jaw segment is then allowed to heal in its new position.
