Heat Destruction of a Bone Tumor Through the Skin

Vermont rates for HCPCS 20982

A needle-like probe is passed through the skin into a tumor in a bone, guided into position with imaging. Radio-wave energy heats the tip of the probe and destroys the tumor, including nearby soft tissue the tumor has grown into. It is often used to relieve pain from cancer that has spread to bone, without open surgery.
