Pressure Monitoring in a Muscle Compartment

Ohio rates for HCPCS 20950

A needle or fine catheter is placed into a muscle compartment of an arm or leg and connected to a gauge that measures the fluid pressure inside it. It is used when swelling after injury, surgery, or a crush threatens to squeeze off the blood supply to the muscles and nerves within that closed space. The reading tells the surgeon whether an emergency release of the compartment is needed.
