This is the first stage of a specialized technique for removing skin cancer from the trunk, arms, or legs, in which a thin layer of tissue is removed and examined under a microscope on the spot to check whether all of the cancer has been taken out before closing the site. The precise, layer-by-layer approach is designed to remove the cancer completely while sparing as much healthy tissue as possible.
