Cuts through the thick, stiff, leathery skin left by a deep burn to release the pressure building underneath. As a burned limb or chest swells, the rigid skin acts like a tight band that squeezes off blood flow or stops the chest expanding, and the release lets the tissue swell freely. This covers the first such incision; each further one is billed separately.
