Cuts out a pressure sore over the sacrum, the broad bone at the base of the spine between the hips, along with the damaged tissue around it, and takes down the prominent underlying bone driving the pressure. Lowering that bony point reduces the load on the area and improves the chance of healing. The wound is left prepared for a muscle flap, skin flap, or graft to close it.
