Moves a piece of skin and underlying tissue to a nearby defect while it stays connected to the single named blood vessel that feeds it, with the surrounding skin cut free. Because the flap keeps a reliable blood supply, it can be shifted further and with less tension than tissue moved on a broad base. It is used where a plain graft would not survive or would look poor.
