This procedure moves a section of skin and underlying tissue from a nearby area to repair a defect, while keeping the tissue temporarily attached to its original blood supply to help it survive. It's used on areas such as the forehead, cheeks, chin, neck, hands, feet, or fingers and toes. Once the transferred tissue has established a new blood supply at the new site, it's later separated from its original location in a follow-up procedure.
