Raises a strip of skin and the tissue beneath it from the scalp, an arm, or a leg, leaving it joined at one end so it keeps its own blood supply, and moves it across to cover a nearby wound. The attachment stays until the moved tissue has picked up a blood supply at its new site. It is used where a plain skin graft would not survive or would be too thin.
