After a growth, injury or damaged skin leaves a gap on the forehead, cheek, chin, mouth, neck, underarm, genital area, hand or foot, skin and the tissue beneath it next to the gap are cut and shifted across to cover it, rather than the wound being pulled closed in a straight line. Unlike a graft taken from a separate donor site, the moved tissue stays attached to its own blood supply. This version covers a smaller area of repair.
