This procedure removes affected skin and underlying tissue from the armpit in a person with hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic condition causing painful lumps and tunnels in sweat-gland-bearing skin, and then closes the wound using a complex repair technique. A complex closure is used when the wound is large, irregular, or otherwise cannot be closed with a simple stitched line, often requiring rearrangement of nearby tissue. It addresses more extensive disease than a basic excision and closure would.
