Implants a small shunt in the wall between the two upper chambers of the heart, delivered on a thin tube threaded along a vein so the chest is never opened. The controlled opening lets blood pass from the left upper chamber to the right, relieving the pressure that backs up into the lungs in heart failure and easing breathlessness. Pressures in both sides of the heart are measured during the procedure.
