Destroys a tumor by passing very short, very strong electrical pulses through it between fine needles placed around and within it, which permanently break down the tumor cells so they die. Because the effect is electrical rather than heating or freezing, ducts, blood vessels and nerves close by are largely spared, and imaging is used to place the needles.
