Measures how readily red blood cells bend and change shape when they are pushed along under flow, which is what allows them to squeeze through the body's smallest vessels. A whole blood sample is tested under shearing force and the result is reported as an index value. Companion tests in the same set measure how strongly red cells stick to a surface rather than how easily they deform.
