Looks for infection with Bartonella henselae or Bartonella quintana, the bacteria responsible for cat scratch disease and trench fever, by detecting their DNA. Droplet digital PCR splits the sample into thousands of tiny droplets so that very small amounts of bacterial DNA can be picked up. This version tests the sample directly; a companion test first grows the bacteria in a special broth before testing.
