Helps work up von Willebrand disease, an inherited bleeding disorder in which the von Willebrand factor protein that anchors platelets to a wound is missing or does not work properly. This test measures how well the protein in a blood plasma sample binds to collagen IV, one of the fibers exposed when a vessel is injured, and reports the result as a level. A companion test measures binding to collagen III instead.
